Would You Still Buy This House After Living Here for 30 Days?
When you're a first-time homebuyer, it's easy to walk into a beautiful home and immediately picture yourself living there. But before making an offer, ask yourself a different question:
Would I still love this house after living here for 30 days?
Here are a few ways to find out before you buy.
1. Visit More Than Once
A quiet neighborhood at noon might be completely different at 5:30 PM. Drive by in the morning, evening, and on the weekend. Pay attention to traffic, parking, noise, and what's happening around the neighborhood.
2. Live Your Normal Routine
Test the commute. Find the nearest grocery store, gym, coffee shop, park, or other places you'll regularly visit. You're not just buying a house—you're choosing the lifestyle surrounding it.
3. Look Past the Pretty Stuff
Fresh paint and beautiful staging can make almost any home feel amazing. Instead, think about everyday life. Is there enough storage? Does your furniture fit? Is the yard manageable? Will the parking situation drive you crazy?
4. Think About Your Future Exit
Your first home doesn't have to be your forever home. Consider how desirable the location, layout, and features may be to another buyer when you're eventually ready to sell.
After helping hundreds of Washington families and being involved in 500+ home sales and over $300 million in real estate**, one thing I've learned is that the best purchase isn't always isn't always cut and dry.
